Some techniques for finding your why:
Knowing your purpose, is a feeling, it is deeper than thought. It is not necessarily clear and specific right from the start. Aligning with your purpose is more a process than a point in time. It may be a search, and sometimes, the search itself is the purpose. However, here are some ideas:
1. This one is from Stephen Covey, imagine you have lived a beautiful, fulfilling life and now you can imagine your funeral - what are some of the things you would like your loved ones to say, in their speech:
Think about Saket, Yuvaan, Your Parents (assume they are there), best friends, co-workers ... what you would like them to say reflects the values you hold dearest in your life. A life built around your values will give you a lot of satisfaction ( or be purposeful and meaningful and in the vicinity of your why).
2. This one is from Martin Luther King, - when you know what you are willing to die for, you will understand what is worth living for.
3. This one is from Marshall Goldsmith - what would your 95 year old self say was your purpose?
4. What was your father's purpose? What was your mother's purpose? What would be the intersection of their purpose and the continuation of it? (this one is a little subtle).
5. If you were 100% sure you could change someone's life, what would you do?
6. If resources were not an issue, and you were guaranteed to succeed, what would you do?
Distinguishing purpose from needs:
You can set a target today ... say 1-2 hour of work. And when you resist or prioritize other things, remind yourself, "this is for financial freedom" ... and if it passes the test - makes you sit down, then it might be accurate. Otherwise, it could be a need.
Needs ka kya hai, as soon as they are met, the motivation finishes. It is like a lion with a full belly. He will not be motivated to hunt.
